The 30-year-old became the fastest player to score 20 Bundesliga goals, reaching the landmark in just 14 matches, well ahead of Uwe Seeler’s previous record of 21. He also has four hat-tricks to his name, something no player had previously achieved in their first Bundesliga season. Arsenal fans thought Kane should have been shown a red card in the second half. CNN —Thomas Tuchel will relinquish his post as Bayern Munich head coach at the end of the season, the club announced on Wednesday. Tuchel, who was hired as head coach of the German powerhouse in March 2023, will leave a year earlier than his original contract end date of June 2025. The Bavarians also lost 1-0 to Italian club Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash. “Our goal is to pursue a new footballing direction with a new head coach for the 2024/25 season. Tuchel’s departure at the end of the season comes amid widespread speculation that Bayern are potentially interested in Leverkusen’s highly-rated coach Xabi Alonso.

Heavy snow and freezing rain grounded hundreds of flights in Germany on Wednesday, including at Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe’s busiest, where half of the scheduled flights were canceled. At Frankfurt Airport, about 500 of the 1,030 scheduled flights were canceled because of the weather on Wednesday, when 115,000 passengers had been expected, the airport said in a statement. The weather-related disruptions would continue on Thursday, the airport said, advising passengers to check their flight status before traveling to the airport. Munich Airport grounded about 150 flights on Wednesday, according to FlightAware, a flight tracking website. Saarbrücken Airport, a small international airport on the country’s western border, suspended operations entirely, its website said.

CNN —Bayern Munich crashed out of the German Cup following a shock 2-1 defeat deep into stoppage time against third-tier FC Saarbrücken on Wednesday. Marcel Gaus scored the winning goal for Saarbrücken in the 96th minute, converting a low cross to spark delirium among the home fans. Bayern gave up possession after sloppy play at the back, and several Saarbrücken passes later, Patrick Sontheimer had a simple finish to make it 1-1 at Ludwigsparkstadion. As the game moved into stoppage time, substitute Tim Civeja found space behind the Bayern defense and crossed to Gaus, who netted an unlikely winning goal for Saarbrücken. Bayern had one last chance through Gnabry, but his shot was blocked and Saarbrücken could celebrate a famous win and a place in the third round of the German Cup.
